What Is a Geomembrane?
A geomembrane is a low-permeability synthetic liner used to control fluid or gas migration in civil, environmental, and mining projects. It is typically made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), or PVC, and comes in large rolls that are welded on-site to create a continuous waterproof barrier.
Geomembranes are widely used in landfills, reservoirs, wastewater treatment plants, mining tailings, and canal linings. They provide excellent chemical resistance, UV stability, and mechanical strength.
Key Technical Specifications:
-
Material: HDPE, LLDPE, or PVC
-
Thickness: 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm
-
Tensile Strength: ≥ 25 MPa (HDPE)
-
Elongation at Break: ≥ 700%
-
Permeability: Essentially zero (≤ 1.0 × 10⁻¹³ cm/s)
Applications of Geomembranes
Geomembranes are highly versatile and can be used across a wide range of industries for applications requiring waterproofing and seepage control. Some common uses include:
Landfills: Used as a bottom liner and covering material to prevent leachate from contaminating the surrounding environment.
Ponds & Reservoirs: Ideal for sealing water bodies, such as fish ponds, irrigation ponds, and water treatment reservoirs, to prevent water loss and seepage.
Mining: Used in leach pads, tailings ponds, and containment facilities for chemicals and hazardous materials, ensuring no contamination of the surrounding environment.
Oil & Gas: Applied in spill containment areas, chemical containment ponds, and wastewater treatment plants to prevent hazardous substances from leaking.
Agriclture: Ideal for irrigation channels, aquaculture ponds, and farming projects where water integrity and chemical resistance are essential.
Construction: Used for waterproofing foundations, tunnels, and basements, providing essential protection from seepage and moisture infiltration.

Just like the earth covered with an invisible raincoat, geomembrane forms the ultimate watertight defense line. Whether it is the bottom of a reservoir, a landfill or a chemical park, it silently takes root, locks the water flow invisibly, and makes leakage a thing of the past.
The original materials are pure as before, isolating pollutants. From farmland and fish ponds to ecological wetlands, it allows the earth to breathe freely and promises a sustainable future - here, it will always be a pure land.
